Last month, I had the chance to play one of my biggest gigs to date at the Gibraltar Music Festival. This is the second year the festival has taken place and the organisers did a cracking job. The festival billed international names such as Emeli Sande, Olly Murs, Texas, Level 42, La Oreja de Van Gogh, 10cc, Gabrielle Aplin and Lawson.

Over the past year or so, I’ve been playing lots of couch surf gigs in livings rooms to anything from 10 to 25+ people at a time. It’s been great, and while I really love playing intimate shows, and look forward to the next dates of the tour, it was very satisfying to play to a large festival crowd. I was offered the third chair on the bill for the Radio Gibraltar Stage playing before the Kent indie band Propellers, who have been getting a lot of attention from BBC Introducing and Radio 1 this year, and rock legends 10cc. Also playing the Radio Gibraltar stage were other great local bands: Paragon, Orange Peel, Afterhours and Valerga Brothers. There were also three local band playing slots on the main stage who won a spot by public vote: This Side Up, Metro Motel and Hollie Buhagiar all playing brilliant sets! Was great to have so many local artists involved in the festival.

Playing to a home crowd was an amazing feeling and I was honestly humbled by the support shown during my set. People singing the words back at me, people grooving, people clapping, rockin’ their cassette logo tees, it was an amazing energy! My set clashed by 15mins with La Oreja De Van Gogh who were playing the main stage so I was a little nervous about what the turnout to the Radio Gibraltar Stage for my set might be, but I was overwhelmed. My last two songs where streamed live to the screen on the main stage so that was pretty cool too!ย I was a bit gutted I couldn’t check out LOVG for myself as I’ve always been a fan! Thanks everyone who came over to support and sing along!

I’ve been confirmed to play at the Gibraltar Music Festival 2013 on 7th September! I’ll be playing on the Radio Gibraltar Stage at around 17:00. It’s always going to be really exciting to get to be on the same bill as any current international act, but to be asked to do this in my hometown, sharing the bill with so many household names makes it so much better!

The festival is headlined by the incredible Emeli Sandรฉ. I’ve had the pleasure of working with her in the past and I can’t think of a better headliner for this festival. Everyone who comes to GMF 2013 is in for an absolute treat! Hope to catch you for my set at the Radio Gibraltar Stage on the 7th September, come say hello!

Yesterday’s performance was fun. Shame about the rain though! Thanks so much to those who came and stood in the downpour to watch!

IMG_5141A couple of weeks ago I received an invite to play at a small acoustic festival just outside of Stevenage called โ€œBerrylandsโ€ which was held on a field that forms part of Ardeley Farm. It was an interesting festival in that allย attendees had purchased tickets via an invite and the ticket price included your food for the evening and breakfast. Each ticket holder received a farm burger and sausages for their dinner as well as some bacon for breakfast. All you had to do was bring your own BBQ and baps! There was also a charity element to the festival with ยฃ5 from every weekend ticket and ยฃ2.50 from every day ticket going towards the Bike 4 Cambodia charity.

As a performer, I was paid in fresh burgers and sausages andย given an extra weekend ticket for a friend. Pretty good deal if you ask me! For years Iโ€™ve been trying Continue Reading…
